Solution area:
Insight’s Supply Chain Optimization solutions simplify the process of procuring, maintaining and replacing the technology clients invest in to run their business.
A university hospital system wanted to support its patients when they needed it most. Its goal was to comfort patients in isolation by providing them with a way to reach their loved ones when no visitors were allowed in hospitals due to physical distancing guidelines.
Apple received an order for 300 iPads so the hospital patients could connect to loved ones using video calling. Apple identified Insight as the right partner to fill this order, and our team got right to work to help this important cause.
As the hospitals continued to experience an influx of patients, it was critical to get the order filled as soon as possible. However, iPads were in high demand during stay-at-home orders — making it difficult to secure the equipment the client wanted.
Insight turned to its distributors to find a partner that was up for the challenge, landing on Tech Data as the right fit for the job. Tech Data pulled the devices from multiple warehouses to get the full quantity the client needed and even expedited shipping. It also agreed to waive the freight charge, allowing us to offer the client more affordable pricing to fit their budget.
The devices were paid for using an Apple Financial Services lease. This allowed the funder to receive the iPads at a low cost, with the residual value of the devices already accounted for.
Thanks to creative thinking and close collaboration with our partners, we were able to deliver the iPads just two weeks after receiving the order from Apple — cutting the average processing time in half. The iPads were in patients’ hands the day after the hospital received the final shipment, allowing them to see their loved ones’ faces.
