Arm technology is a generalized term that includes a type of computer processor that uses a simple set of instructions, known as Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC), to perform tasks. Arm technology processors are used in various environments and applications, such as electronic devices, smartphones, computers and more.
The “Arm” in Arm technology originally stood for Acorn RISC Machine. The Acorn RISC Machine was a processor that was originally developed by Acorn Computers, as they required a component that was faster and had better memory usage than the processors available on the market. In the 1990s, Acorn Computers transitioned into a joint venture and rebranded as Arm® Ltd. To this day, the organization still creates instruction sets for Arm technology.
